In Word, what is the precedence of templates when more than one i.

If I have a document that is based on a template, possibly with attached
templates, and they all define the same style name, which template takes
precedence?

If I modify the style, which template gets modified?
 
You might want to have a look at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/WhatTemplatesStore.htm. The *only*
template from which a document gets styles is the attached template (the one
on which you based the document or a different one that you later attach).
Global templates (including Normal.dot) can provide macros, AutoText,
toolbars, shortcut keys, and the like, but not styles or document formatting
(margins, columns, page size and orientation, etc.), except in the case of a
Blank Document, which is actually based on Normal.dot.

When you modify the style, no template gets updated unless you check the
"Add to template" box in the Style dialog, in which case it is the attached
template. Otherwise, the style modification is confined to the document.

And even if you attach a template to an existing doc, it won't get the
styles from that template unless you check "Tools > Templates and Add-Ins >
Automatically update document styles".
