In the ledger database, how do I enter an account balance?

I am new to Access and was practicing with the ledger database. In setting up
my accounts, I noticed that an amount could not be entered in the account
balance field of the form. Is there a way this can be handled? My system here
at home is XP.

I would guess that you would enter a deposit titled beginning balance.
