I have these headings "Tasks, Notes, and Contacts".
I also have the above headings followed by "... in Personal Folders"
I'm confused by these two, apparently duplcated lists, some can be deleted
some can not.

How do these duplicate items get created and how do I eliminate the extras?

In the Favorite Folders section with Outlook 2003? These are shortcuts you
can create manually so you can access them easily.

Tips of the month:
-Properly back-up and restore your Outlook data
-Creating a Permanent New Mail Desktop Alert in Outlook 2003

In the upper Left corner. For example; in Contacts/My contacts there are two
items listed "Contacts" and "Contacts in Personal Folders". This is true of
Notes and Contacts as well. Where does the extra item come from? Which item
is the REAL thing? Why can I not delete either item, as I would be able to
do if they wre "shortcuts".

These are references to an additional pst-file you've go connected in
Outlook. You should see this additional folderset when in Folder List
