In need some information about networking

Hey-
I own three computer in my house (all windows XP home edition) and I was
woundering is there a way I can hook them all up so I can login any computer
and still be able to acess my information from that computer, like a home
network type thing...I mean I already have a Router, and all the computers
have internet and are hooked up to it , but is there any way I can make a
network with out buying any other items? -Mike

Mike,

If you have a router, and internet service is working on all 3 computers, then
getting file sharing working between all 3 is doable. Here are a few websites

In my Home network, which includes a wired Dell w/XPHm & PBell W98FE, and a
wireless Dell Laptop w/XPHm, I use RealVNC to control the Desktops of the
PC's, from one PC.

It is free and can be downloaded at:

I have version 3.3.7 installed on all the PC's. Installed both viewer and
server feature on all the PC's. On each PC, make sure that the VNC server
software is set to run when PC starts, on each PC. Then use the Viewer
feature from another PC to view the Desktop of another PC. You will need to
use a password in the settings panel, so you can logon.

Sharing Drives or Folders over a network:
1. You need to allow Sharing for the Drives or Folders that you want to be
able to share over the network. With XPHme, you will not be able to share
some System folders. See the following article:

2. On each PC> My Computer> Right click the Drive> Sharing & Security> and
go through Sharing wizard. If you plan just to share a folder on PC, go to
the folder> Right-click it> Sharing & Security> and go through Sharing
wizard.
3. If you are using third party security programs such as Norton, McAfee,
ZoneAlarm, you will probably need to allow file (or file & printer) sharing,
in the firewall settings.
4. If you are also using the Windows firewall, behind the router's firewall,
you will need to allow sharing.

For XP SP2> Control Panel> Security> Under Manage Settings> Click on Windows
Firewall> Exceptions tab> Click File and Printer Sharing.

For XP SP1, there should be a similar setting under ICF.
