In My Documents I have this Gray sidebar down the ....

left hand side of my screen. It takes up about 20 percent of my screen
and there is really nothing of importance there, that I couldn't get
through a toobar ontop of my windowns or by right clicking. Why is this
space there and how do I get ride of it so my whole screen is nothing
but what's in My Documents.

On the toolbar at the top of the screen, click on Tools.
In the menu that drops down, click on Folder Options.
On the General page of Folder Options, select "Use Windows
Classic folders".
Click OK.

Hello Nick,

If that grey side-bar appears on the desktop, you can use the following to remove it:

Remove Common Tasks from Desktop

If it is in any folder etc, you can turn off the common tasks pane in the following way:
