Was setting up partition on maxtor disk through Maxblast. Did one disk
and was repeating the same on the other.
Noticed that some files were getting transferred on the disk. Saw
message pop up that some system change is allowed.
Canceled the process.
Could not exit Maxblast so forced shut the machine.
Disconnected being formated disk.
Powered on the machine.
Things looked moving on normally.
Machine Maker's logo -> Microsoft XP - - - -- bar moving -> Then where
'Welcome' appears with jingle only Microsoft XP logo comes up and just
stays like that.
Nothing happens even when System Recovery CD is put in CD drive.
I have had to do reinstalling several time but this time I am stuck.
Machine was my main workhorse, with lots of files I have no backup
anywhere.
I would be delivered if someone makes my machine come alive.
Thank you very much.

Tried starting in safe mode.
No luck.
Only the logo
Microsoft
Windows XP
shows up in larger letters.

Could be some change has taken place in BIOS, but what and how to
correct it.

If you want to keep your files and important "stuff", you might should load
it up and haul it to some one who knows what they're doing. Else I'm afraid
you getting close to kissing it all goodbye, if you're not already there.

Not wanting to go "nah nah, nuh nah nah" but this is how I learned to back stuff
up onto an external drive. It was a very painful lesson.

I save everything on a networked drive that is mirrored on an
identical drive on the server every night. For a couple hundred bucks
I've skirted a couple drive failures and the potential loss of valuable
and irreplaceable data. I really cringe when I see people who operate
a computer for home/small business with no backup strategy whatsoever.
And trust me these people are the norm, not the exception.

OK...

How did you get here? You have another machine you can use to get on the
'net?

This is what I do...download an ISO of Knoppix or Ubuntu Linux. Have
something like a USB drive large enough to hold your files, or, if you
have two Optical drives, boot from one and have the other one able to burn
CDs or DVDs. If you need to, buy a second Optical (DVD burner if you have
a CD drive, or just get a CD ROM for $19 if you already have a DVD burner.)
This will be cheaper than a USB Drive. Or, if you want a USB Drive, go to
Staples and get a HDD on sale (IDE) and an IO/Magic USB enclosure for $29
or so. I'm running Ubuntu from one of these set-ups right now...
The good thing about the USB drive is you can do incremental back-ups to
it every time you change, add or revise files...

Boot into Knoppix or Ubuntu (I like Knoppix for this better. 'Mount' the
munged drive by clicking on it. If it comes up empty, chances are you
really messed up bad...

Copy your files onto the USB drive or burn them onto a CD or DVD. Once
you've gotten what you need, reboot and try the MAXBLAST again.

MAXBLAST is OK, but if you have the Knoppix, use the Disk utility to blow
the partition away and start over. You also say you have a "System
Recovery" CD. This a Dell, HP or a Gateway? Look for a 'hidden' partition;
they used to use these to store the compressed image for the recovery.

Unfortunately, if MAXBLAST did away with this partition (like it sounds it
did) you're screwed and have to either call Tech Support or just go out
and buy a *REAL* copy of Windows to restore your machine...

But, you should be able to get your files back...

Good Luck!

After you get the computer to start up to any operating system you can try
recovery programs to recover lost data such as ontrack easy recovery pro.
Otherwise, you can try one or more of the freeware programs on this page:

http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwdatarecovery.html

before investing money in recovery software.

Do frequent backups in the future.....like every night. :-)

Regards.....

Hey Josh, My computer is doing the same thing And it just started doing it
,won't allow me to use the recovery disk my computer is going into windows
and then the line at the bottom stops and it goes into memory dump then stops
and then tells me that the previous start up failed due to power failure and
ask me what mode i started windows in and then repeats the process all over
again if anybody can help that would be wonderful I'm quite flustered

That's what I've been doing for the longest time, sending everything that's
worth anything to networked drives. I'm currently looking at the fire wire
version of external hard drive's as extra protection. A person learns to do
this the hard way, when they have a complete harddrive failure and the
drive's loaded with shit that's been saved over several years.

Well in computers it's both.

Don't backup your data to the same location as your original data ;-)

You were lucky actually...
for if your system recovery cd had worked...you would have lost all your
data!

Put the drive in another machine running XP ( win2k or vista will also be
ok)
then locate all the data you need to save and back it up.
if the drive is corrupted and the data is not visible...then you will need
data recovery software

Why, if his is your main work machine, would you not have a backup? Do you
have a desire to loose data? First step should be to backup the important
data. After that you can work on repairing the system. Here are several
ways to backup the data.

1. Take the drive out of the computer and install it as a slave drive in
another Windows XP or 2000 computer. It should read the drive ok, so you can
copy the data.

2. Create a bootable Bart's PE disk, boot from that, then copy the data to
external USB drive or flash drive.

3. Download a bootable Linux distro called Knoppix. Create a bootable CD
from that, boot from it, and copy the data to USB drive or flash drive, or
if the computer has two CD drives, one of which is a burner, then use the
k3b burning program on the Knoppix CD to burn the data to CD.

4. Take it to a competent computer tech to backup the data.

I once had a similar problem. The solution in that case was reboot, F8,
"Last known configuration that worked."

Sweet as a nut; maybe I was just lucky?

For my own part, I have never had a thought which I could not set down
in words with even more distinctness than that with which I conceived
it. There is, however, a class of fancies of exquisite delicacy which
are not thoughts, and to which as yet I have found it absolutely
impossible to adapt to language. These fancies arise in the soul, alas
how rarely. Only at epochs of most intense tranquillity, when the
bodily and mental health are in perfection. And at those weird points
of time, where the confines of the waking world blend with the world of
dreams. And so I captured this fancy, where all that we see, or seem,
is but a dream within a dream.

I realize this is late, but DO NOT use MaxBlst to partition your hard drive
unless it is completely empty or you will loose everything. Use programs
like Norton PartitionMagic or Acronis Disk Director. These programs are
capable of formatting and partitioning WITHOUT disturbing other partitions.
MaxBlast is great for new or empty hard drives only.

Also Paragon Partition Manager is the biz; in fact I find it best of all
above all the rest. ( PM8 that is.)

(What made me think of PMT? A Paragon product, or an afternoon cuppa...?

LOL Paragon PMT; a girls partitioning pain. -Includes Red Flag & Moodswing
Magic.)
