Can anyone tell me what the ??? in a file path mean? example

In the reg. editor

Symbolic name= reg sz= \??\usb#vid 043d.........and so o
and in reg.editor but different area but may be related
location info reg sz= on the BD????.(For actiontec usb dsl

I have been having trouble getting my external dsl working again. I had the blue usb cable attached directly to the usb port on the pc. Then I got a usb hub and attached the blue cable to it. After afew days I decided to reattach it back to the usb port on the pc and now I don't get a signal. What does BD mean? I have winxp home (SP1), AOl 9.0, IE6

I don't think this is a valid file path. (Strictly speaking, "?" is used as
a wildcard.) Instead, the strings you displayed are usually used to
enumerate USB devices.
