Is outlook.exe still listed as a running process in the Processes tab of
Task Manager? Did you minimize Outlook to a system tray icon (a
registry hack) or did you actually close Outlook and now you cannot
start a new instance of it? What happens if you run "outlook.exe
/recycle" which reuses any currently running instance of Outlook instead
of opening a new instance?

In task manager, OL is running, but run->outlook.exe /recycle doesn't want to
open.

Thanks for your help.

If outlook.exe is running, it could be because you minimized it or it
could be that it failed to properly exit. Recycling an Outlook instance
won't work if it hung on exiting (because it was trying to *exit*, not
simply hide its GUI).

If you exit Outlook and outlook.exe is still running, you have an add-on
that is hanging. When Outook loads, it also loads all enabled add-ons.
If an add-on hangs or crashes then Outlook hangs or crashes. When
Outlook exits, it first has to unload all the add-ons. If an add-on
hangs or crashes then Outlook hangs or crashes.

If outlook.exe remains running after everytime you start a fresh
instance of it and try to exit then you'll need to figure out which
add-on is causing the problem. First load Outlook in its safe mode
("outlook.exe /safe") which does NOT load any add-ons. Then exit
Outlook. Did it exit okay? If so, load Outlook, enable one add-on,
exit Outlook, load Outlook, and exit again. Did it hang (i.e., is
outlook.exe still running)? Wait 1 minute to make sure Outlook properly
shuts down. If Outlook successfully exited (no outlook.exe left
behind), then you repeat this process for each add-on. When you find
outlook.exe is still around after exiting Outlook and waiting a minute
then the last add-on you enabled is the culprit. Uninstall it and check
for a later version.

Hi,

Thanks for all your answers, however I think the problem is more serious.
The whole computer goes to coma every 2 minutes or half hour, I never know.

So could you please tell me how to send all my outlook emails (in a lot of
folders) to an external HDD?

I would hate to lose all my life'

Thanks a million times

OL works fine as well as the whole computer in safe mode. I sent a lot of
files but not Outlook.

Thank you

Search for the .pst file(s). They might be hidden so be sure to include
hidden files in the file search. Then copy those .pst files to
somewhere else (CD-R, DVD-R, flash thumb drive, different partition on
same disk, different partition on a different disk, online storage).

I found them and get an error" MS Outlook internet
Settingsmail.messinengine.com-00000017: the process cannot access the file
because another process has locked a portion of the file.

Could you please tell me what to do now :-(((

Thanks a lot

That's a cache PST and you shouldn't need to copy that. Unfortunately, you
may also not be able to move that PST to another drive. However, see if
this helps:
