Greetings, all.
I was sent a copy of FrontPage 2002 to use for classes at
an online university. However, I can't get it (OR the
replacement copy they sent me) to finish installing. At
varying places during the install, my system (Win98 SE)
hangs solidly -- no response to keyboard or mouse or
anything but the power switch.
I can't even discover the product ID (to be able to ask
Micro$oft Support about it) by browsing the CD -- even
doing *that* can hang the system(!)

Anybody know WTF is going on with this thing?

The product ID won't be found by browsing
the CD, it is printed on the CD cover.

Actually that's the CD key. The product key is automatically generated
based upon the CD key and is unique to each install.

If you can't install, you obviously won't have a product key. Microsoft
understands this. If you explain to them that you can't install it, they
will create a free incident for you and help you to resolve the issue.

This is going to sound like a bizarre response, but this came directly
from MS and it worked.

I had the same problem and it turned out there were not enough
resources available for Windows installer to install the program. This
despite the fact that I had 256 MB of RAM and a P-III running at
600mHz.

Anyway, the tech who worked with me on the phone called back after we
had exhaused all possibilities and suggested deleting all of the icon
on my desktop. I know, crazy.

Did it.

It worked!

Seems some of these (I suspect Real Networks) has some kind of a
applet that runs in the background and hogs resources.

BTW, mine was the FP2002 upgrade from FP2000

So, it couldn't hurt to try.

Good luck.

Thanks, Jim!
....I hope MS will cooperate, even though they no longer
offer any support for Win98.

They should. After all, you don't need support for Windows 98! :)
