Having upgraded a machine from 98 to XP, what is the best way to move
favorites over to be available to all users.

I've tried putting them in 'docs and settings\all users\favorites' but this
does not
seem to work...

Thanks.

I had the same problem when moving from 98 to XP, and the solution was to open IE and use file\import to bring the favorites over from the old machine, after I had saved the favorites file to the network from the 98 machine. If you can have both running at the same time through a network connection I think you should be able to import it directly from the 98 machine. I'm not sure if you have to repeat this for each individual user. I don't understand how XP shares these things among different users on the same machine.

Hi Neil,

Thanks for your posting here.

You can try the following steps to maintain a common Favorites folder for
all users who are using Windows XP.

1. Run Regedt32.exe.

2. Navigate to the following location: Select the Favorites value in the
following registry path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
\User Shell Folders

3. Click to select the Favorites value.

4. On the Edit menu, click String.

5. Change the current path to reflect the UNC path (for example,
\\CommonServer\FavShare) or mapped drive (for example F:\Favorites) of the
new server share for the common Favorites folder.

6. Start Internet Explorer.

7. On the Favorites menu, click Organize Favorites, and then verify that
the new location was saved properly.
