Hi

I recently upgraded to Win 2000 and am using Outlook 97.

I have a PST file created whilst in Win 98 and am trying to import it into
outlook in 2000. When I try to do this, I get a message that I do not have
permission to access the file. I have looked at permission in help but am
only more confused.

Can someone please advise how I can access this file?? It also happens that
all my files in word are read-only, and this happened once I upgraded to Win
2000, not out of something I did.. Some sort of security in operation?

I originally upgraded to Win XP and this PST file import worked fine, but
many other of my old programs did not work properly so I have to revert back
to Win 2000.

I desperatley need to rectify this problem as outlook is an integral part of
my business and need to get it going very soon.

Some assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Make sure you have read/write permissions on the file and that the "Read
Only" file attribute isn't set. Instead of import use File-> Open-> Personal
Data File... and browse to your pst-file.

Orlando,

Do not import pst. Merely right click on Outlook and add pst as data file..

The next problem is word as read only ... You did not state if youfile
system is NTFS or Fat 32... But it sounds as if NTFS. Go to directory with
docs , right click, properties, and uncheck read only attributes..... Hope
this helps

Thank you for your reply.

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to some of these aspects of
outlook.

I cannot open the PST file using File>Open, either. I'm not sure how to
check for permission to read write for that file. I have checked this for
the folder I exported from and all I get from the dialogue box is a
"general" tab and nothing about permission.

Can you please suggest how I actually give myself permission to access the
file. I am the only operator on the system - I am self employed so have not
set up the system for anyone other than myself, so I'm not sure how this
happened in the first place.

Thanks again
