Import Spreadsheet Wizard - Can't rename fields

When importing an XL spreadsheet, t will not allow my users to rename fields
in the import spreadsheet wizard. Sometimes the first field renames OK, but
when they click on any column to the right of that, it just renames the first
column again. Very wierd. Any ideas?

Environment: Office XP SP3 in Windows 2000 SP4.

This is a known issue for ACCESS 2002 SP3. This issue is desribed in

There is a Hotfix available from Microsoft Technical Support for this
problem. Description of the Access 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package:

Additional information regarding the application of this HotFix for people
using Windows XP SP2:

Apparently, when the HotFix is installed in this environment, conflicts
between the HotFix and Windows XP SP2 cause some .dll files to become
unregistered, and therefore the HotFix may appear to not work after it's
installed.

To resolve this, after installing the HotFix, run a repair of your Office
program. That re-registers the .dll files and the HotFix then works as
advertised.

So, install the HotFix, then repair Office.

Microsoft assures me that the KB article will be updated to reflect this new
information.

There also is a HotFix for ACCESS 2003 for similar issue.
