If I transfer a copy of the Outlook 2000 .pst file from my work
computer (OS=Win 2000) to my home computer (OS=Win 98SE), is there a
way I can then use this file to read the messages in Outlook Express
6?

Thanks in advance.

Not without opening them in Outlook first.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Harold asked:

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure I follow. If what you're
suggesting is a practical process for 1000's of emails, could you be a
little more explicit on what the specific steps are? Thanks.

P.S. How did you know I searched Google Groups? Because I posted via
Google?? Or was it just an educated guess...or maybe an indirect
suggestion?

Since Outlook Express can't touch PST files, if you want to move your
messages in the PST file to Outlook Express, you'll first have to open the
file with Outlook and make it your default delivery location. Since you
claim you've used Outlook, you should know how to do that. Once you've
opened the PST in Outlook, go to Outlook Express' Import wizard
(Import>Messages>Microsoft Outlook) and follow the prompts. To move your
Contacts to Outlook Express, you'll have to Export them from Outlook and a
CSV file and import them into Outlook Express using that same format.

Hello,

I found this thread on Google and it applies directly to me as well. We
have a staff member leaving and we use Outlook XP in the office. This staff
member only has OE 6 at home and is not willing (capable?) to install
another client like Eudora. Is there any possible way for this staff member
to import something into OE6 on her home computer that I can place on a CD
here at work? I'm going to try and import it into OE6 here at work and see
if I can get anywhere with that, but it seems that this person's only option
might be to install another client (at least temporarily) at home.

Thanks for any tips...

No, that's the best way.
make sure you and your soon-to-leave (why are you letting a leaving member
have the email data?) staff read this:
Backup and Restore OE

Thanks, I'll give that a quick read. Our policy is pretty relaxed, mainly
intended to have them working while not on break but allow them to use
equipment (phones, computers) for personal issues during lunches/breaks. So
I backed up anything they considered personal to a PST file. Anyway, I'm
leaving too so I'll let someone else deal with the policy if they consider
it ineffective... :)
