Acess Newbie, Excel Non-Newbie

I download data from our AS/400 into an excel spreadsheet. i have each of
10 columns named something. also i have several columns relating to each
other named something so by holding ctrl and selecting column A,C,D, and F.
i name that range Job Info. however, when i go to import the spreadsheet
into Access, that range is not listed in the "named ranges" list. do they
have to be consecutive cells/ranges to be able to be imported as a named
range? i do not want all that data from the downloaded spreadsheet in one
table because a lot of the data is repetitive. TIA.

Yes. Access Import recognises only contiguous ranges from
Excel.

You can extend the named range in Excel, import the range
and in the Import Wizard Dialog, you can skip the Fields /
Columns that you don't want.

Alternatively, you can import the whole lot. Once the
Import finishes, open the imported Table in Design View
then delete the FIelds that you don't need. This can
bloat your database file if the import is big and you may
need to do a Compact to reduce the database file size.
