Hopefully someone can help. I am running Outlook 2003 and it is
configured for an EMAIL server that uses IMAP. Every time I start
outlook 2003 and then go to the folder for the email account, it says
"updating local cache" and it takes 1-3 minutes before I can do
anything in outlook. is there a way to fix this issue and improve
performance?? I read you can turn off the local cache but it says its
only for exchange servers which I am not configured for. Any help
would be appreciated...

You can't turn off local caching for IMAP accounts, but you can limit the
communication between the client and server. Click Tools>Options>Mail
Setup>Send/Receive. Select your send/receive group and click Edit. Uncheck
"Get folder unread count" and choose "Download headers only". Also make
sure that the Inbox is the only folder in the "Check folders from the
selectes account..." list in the bottom half.
