Image Files

In what format does Word save image files? It appears that images
inserted as .gif get saved as .png.. I can't figure out how Word
handles .jpg.

In Word 2007, gif and jpeg files are saved as gif and jpg respectively. bmp
files are saved as png. tiff files are saved as tiff.

This is quite easy to see in Word 2007... change the .docx extension to
..zip, open the zip file, and navigate to the word\media folder.
