Image cloning - Norton Ghost Lizenz

Hi,
we are cloning our XP embedded disks with Norton Ghost. Now Symantec said,
that it is illegal to use one Norton Ghost Lizenz to produce more than one
target disk (for another target system).
They want to sell us one Norton Ghost Lizenz for each target system!
Is it ok? How do you clone you systems?

Hi Juergen,

It is a common misunderstanding that using Ghost doesn't require a per
device license, but it does. There are ways using XPe and SDI to deploy your
image, or you can use WinPE (which has a license fee as well but is much
less than Ghost).

We clone systems using an XPe SDI file that loads from Microsoft's Remote
Boot Server. The SDI contains a small footprint XPe image that preps the
local disk and copies the image over from a network drive. I have some
documentation on this available if you email me directly I'll send it.

Forget using a PC,
Get a Hard disk cloning device like this:

If you use a compact flash, you can get IDE to compact flash adapters from
other places.

We use the echo now for cloning (use the Mirror/Verify) setting.

I have used Ghost on occasion for backing up the masters to CDs. For that
purpose, the liscence fee is more tolerable.
