You'll get a cable modem from Comcast or you can buy one (it's better just
to rent the one from the company). For your setup up you should probably go
wireless. Buy a wireless router and two wireless pci cards or wireless USB
adapters off eBay or from your local computer store (cheaper on eBay). As
for your Xbox, you don't have to buy the Wireless LAN Card but it be better
than running network cables every. You can just plug a network cable from
your router right to the back of your Xbox.
With a wireless router you can connect computers and other devices wireless
(up to 200?) or by running cable with the remain three open plugs on the
back of your router. You can do both also.
This is all just my opinion. I just started reading up and an investing
into wireless a week ago. Just setup my home network today and I'd have to
say it was pretty easy since I haven't done it before.

| i have 3 computers running win xp and all have dial up. i really really
want to connect all this computer together but dont know how. right now i
have two different phone lines wich me and my family take time sharing. were
planing to get cable internet from comcast beacause we already have it for
cable tv. what are the steps i need to go from now to get my computer

one problem, i have one computer upstairs and two downstairs. i also have an
xbox down stairs wich i plan to get an xbox live, however, it needs an
