Ok, please be patient in reading this as it is a long story, but I really
need your help.
I had a system crash on an HP computer due to a worm in my anti-virus
program never caught, causing bad sectors on my hard drive. Since I didn't
have back-up or recovery disks, nor an original WinXP disk, my next thing
was to put in a brand new hard drive and I bought and installed WinXP Pro.
Everything fine so far.
I had trouble loading in a Bible program and kept getting different errors
that said there were problems with certain files on the computer (sorry, I
never wrote them down nor can I remember them). I figured, "put in the WinXP
Pro disk and fix things", so I put it in and chose the option to re-install
windows but to retain my data and programs. Now here comes my problem.
The disk has re-installed to the place it is installing devices and begins
by saying I am 39 minutes away from having windows installed. It gets to 34
minutes left with the installation progress bar getting about two thirds
there and it stops progressing. The little info pages keep
scrolling/appearing as normal, and the mouse isn't frozen, and the progress
dots in the bottom right corner that says the computer is working continues
to run. The screen blanks to black for a second,...another couple minutes it
does it again,...another couple minutes and the system re-boots and starts
all over again at the loading devices spot and it can never get past 2
thirds installed.
I have tried safe mode, but anything in safe mode gets a message that safe
mode can't be accessed. I have tried everything that appears on that list
(like re-boot to an earlier point where everything ran ok), but no matter
what I try it just re-boots and goes back to the re-installing windows spot
to start the same cycle.
HOW do I fix this?
