I'm losing my mind

I cannot get into my cmpt. This is causing me great
distress! It started out as a black screen that said I
was missing a major component and I would have to
reconfigure something. I then went into setup, and
started fiddling around, and I changed my password. Now
the password I changed will not work, nor will my old
one.

I have tried caps on/off, and many variations of
passwords, just in case I didn't spell it correctly. When
I go to type any password in, it says power on password,
but nothing shows up when I type, and when I press enter,
the same line appears, when I press enter again the *
symbol comes on.

Of course being the dumbass I am, I have nothing saved,
and I am really hoping there is some way to get back in,
please someone tell me there is. I am tech challenged and
really no nothing, so I could use all the help I can get.

p.s. I am poor, so that is why I haven't been able to get
it looked at. It is now going on 2 weeks, I can't take
the pain.

The power on password has nothing to do with Windows, it's a feature of the
bios. You can clear it, but it's going to take opening the computer.

Your best bet is to find the manual for the motherboard (if you got one) or
looking it up online. There a jumper you need to reset, which will change
the bios settings back to the default. You can also take the battery out for
a minute or so (with the power unplugged as well). Don't mess around with
anything else in there while you're at it. Randomly changing things isn't
going to help anything.

Then you're be back to the Windows problem, if that's what it was to begin
with. If you post what the exact message was on the black screen, it would
be helpful.

psssst. It's the power-on password according to the OP, not Windows. Will
this reset the bios as well?
