Hello,
I recently had to rebuild my Win XP home PC, except for a couple of niggles
it's up and running again nicely.

I had a programe, a freebie that allowed me to rip or convert MP3s to other
formats, it also was able to shrink further the the size of MP3s files which
I found very useful

I no longer have this programe or remember its name or where I uploaded it
from.

Does any one know of it or can recomend a freebie that will allow me to do
this?

there are many programs for this use. Try searching for
"computer>software>open source>mp3"

If there are so many programes can you advise me of one that will do all
that I ask of it.

Well, Open Source has the actual programming code available to the
public. Makes porting to other operating systems, and indeed pointing
out bugs easier. Also open source software is FREE for personal use,
though donations are sometimes requested by the author.

It appeals to the socialist streak, and the programs are generally
pretty decent.

audio,and has plugins for specialized tasks. It also doubles as a player, of
course. DVD, DivX,Avi,MP3........you get it.
