I've spent the last 18 hours trying to find the answer to this
question:

Microsoft Works Spreadsheet Version 6.0 - What's the key combination to
enter the date or time in a cell?

I'm sorry to be a nuisance, but even the Microsoft website is no help.

It's driving me NUTS!!!

As was pointed out to you in your previous post on this topic, this is an
Excel newsgroup, not a Works one. Peo Sjoblom gave you suggestions for what
the shortcuts might be in Works. Tom Ogilvy gave you a link to a Works
newsgroup. I suggest you follow up on these rather than starting again here!

For the record, the Excel shortcuts (CTRL+; and CTRL+Shift+;) work in Works
5 (2000). However, if this is covered in Help it's buried too deep for me to
track down.

This info has also been posted in TSG Forums, since OP (or at least
"Lady18Wheels") has restarted the thread there.

Rgds,
Andy

Paul,
I drive a truck for a living, and I keep my CB radio on in case there's
an accident or something else happening that I might want to know
about.

You hear a LOT of garbage on the CB.

Can you believe that people will actually key up and complain about the
garbage? Their OFF knob is right in front of them.

There's a difference here. You've received and will receive great help from
experts for absolutely free, and I think a minimum of paying back is to try
to behave. Telling your helpers to go somewhere else because your
spreadsheet is finished or because you're exercising your right to go insane
or to emphasize your trucker image just doesn't make sense, there are others
here who are not finished with their spreadsheet problems and who need
assistance.

But ok, I've seen far worse cases of "going insane", so no big deal ;-)

Best wishes Harald
Followup to newsgroup only please

This issue has been resolved in TSG Forums -- Business Apps with the info
below, and is closed from an Excel POV.

Thanks Harald, group hug.

Best rgds,
Andy

Stuff found on Google suggests (can't check) that the shortcuts are
missing/removed from Works versions 6 and 7.

You can use the =NOW() function. This returns a number, ie: 37914.6081365741
or thereabouts (# of days since 1/1/1900).

But after that, you would have to Format -- Number -- Date and choose your
format.

And to hardcode it (keep from updating), you'd have to copy, then Edit --
Paste Special -- Values Only.

Or found this for v7 which may work in v6 (again, can't check) -

1. Insert
2. Date and Time
3. Select Date/Time
4. Click Insert

What I was trying to point out (badly, maybe) is that if a person isn't
going to offer any help, why not just click on by (click on to somebody
they CAN help) instead of taking the time to tell me what I already
know?

As far as I can tell, I haven't been out of line in any way, shape, or
form with my posts on this site. As far as my trucker image goes,
well, it's what I do - all I really know anymore after 7 years and 2
million miles.

I really don't mean to offend anyone here. I'd just like to get my
spreadsheet working so I can take it out with me.

Included is a hug and kiss for you. I apologize if one is necessary
:-)

Gonna see what I can do about it - not having the shortcuts.
Good deal.
Hugs all around.
I appreciate everybody's time.
Please be safe and careful on the highways - especially around big
trucks. We can't stop on a dime they way 4-wheelers can. And believe
it or not, a good many of us truckers really DO care about your lives.

Actually, I WAS trying to help! Two avenues had been offered by others in
your previous post which you had apparently ignored. (I say this because you
had not replied in that thread to say why they didn't resolve the issue -
rather you reposted in an Excel newsgroup when a Works one had been
suggested.) Thus, I thought that, for some reason, you had not seen those
suggestions, so I pointed out their existence. I'm sorry that this annoyed
you. Please just be aware that we don't know what you have read or tried or
found problems with unless you reply and tell us.
