I'm getting four copies of each e-mail

I'm getting four copies of each e-mail that I recieve. I delete all of my
messages and then empty the deleted items bin, but every time I check my
mail, all of the previous messages come back as if I had never performed any
actions.

Tools | Accounts
Make sure you don't have multiple entries for the account.
 
The same bunch of messages are delivered each time you check your mail?
If so, you should be seeing an error message toward the end of the download.
If there is an error message, please share that with us.
