Hello All,

About a month ago I had to reformat my hard drive but was able to save some
data and programs onto a few CD's. After the new version of Windows XP Pro
was installed on my machine, I tried to re-install some programs from the
CD's, but am denied access. The message I get is "Cannot copy .....: access
is denied".

I was advised on this newsgroup to regain control of the CD by going to
tools, folder options, view. But I have not been able to regain control of
them. Its most frustrating considering that I created them myself. One
exception! For some reason, I was able to copy music from one of these CD's
back onto my hard drive. But only the music files.

I'd sure appreciate some further help, if you can tell me what to do. If you
do post a solution here, would you please stay tuned to this thread, because
last time it seemed I was on the right track and followed instructions
accurately, but it didn't work... and I could not get any answers to my
follow-up questions. Thanks in advance for your help!

Files such as graphics/pictures, TXT files/documents, and single files such
as music/MP3s can be copy&pasted or dragged&dropped back to the harddrive.
But, programs/applications will have to be reinstalled to run properly.
Files only will not run for other components will be needed to reinstall to
the Registry, etc.

Thanks Byte,
That pretty much explains it. I might be s.o.l. though, since some of these
programs were purchased on-line and I've lost email documentation to prove
it.
