I bought my computer 2 months ago and I have just tried to
download xp service pack and I am being told that my xp is
illegal. when I bought the computer every thing was
allready installed. I can not return the computer to the
person I bought it from because it was from a local paper
in England and I now live in Spain. If you could help I
would be most gratefull.

Thank-you

Jonah,

If they did not supply you with the Retail or OEM CD ROM and the associated
paperwork and Product Activation Key then you did not buy Windows XP on the
PC. You just bought the PC hardware.
The fact that SP1(a) detects the use of a known pirated key means that you
don't even have a copy of a regular version.
You will need to go and purchase a genuine copy of Windows XP and
reinstall.
