Hi,

Please advise if there's a more appropriate ng for this topic. (This
group seems to know the most about updates and fixes.)

My Epson multi-function printer, which was installed back in January, has
recently (began a month ago) been giving 'scan error' messages on it's
LCD panel, even when the scanner is not used. In an attempt to fix this,
I uninstalled the drivers and other bundled print/scan/copy Epson
applications, and tried to reinstall them.

The uninstall went ok, but when I tried to reinstall them, I constantly
got messages saying that this or that Epson application couldn't be
launched. I had to OK past them until the entire install was over. I
didn't want to cancel out of the install, as Epson says to OK past these
messages.

The printer showed up fine in the device list, but when trying to print
anything to it, the machine kept searching for the printer.

I uninstalled everything again, but I got this message while uninstalling
Epson Twain 5, and Epson Smart Panel:

i.Kernel.exe - Application Error
The instructin at "0x771c732a" referenced memory at "0x001634a0". The
memory could not be "read".
Click OK to terminate this program.

I did a Google search, and found that this error message may be caused
by:
1) corrupt InstallShield engine
2) old version of InstallShield engine
3) conflict with InstallShield on XP SP1 systems running Hot Fix Q328310

There is a fix for Q328310 from the Microsoft Download Center, but
Microsoft recommends waiting for the next XP Service Pack that contains
this fix. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Has anyone experienced this problem, and what was your fix? There's a
number of approaches, but the ininstall/reinstall process for the Epson
applications is lengthy, and I'd like some advice from anyone who has
fixed this problem as to what's the most likely solution.

Sincerely,
Bruce
