OK This is annonying me now.

Trying to setup a local development environment on my XP Pros. Sp2 machine
using IIS6. Whenever I try and browse the default site I get 401.2 errors.

I've checked Directory Security in IIS for the site in question and Windows
Authentication is selected, yet I don't even get a prompt box.

I've added the account I use to log on locally ( tcollings ) to the
administrators group and still no joy.

I've un-installed IIS6 and re-installed ( Windows / Add-Remove Programs
etc... )

The site doesn't display if I use loopback 127.0.0.1, my machine name (
although dns resolves it correctly to my IP ).

Just 401.2 not authorized errors all the time.

Any ideas ?

That's your first mistake - IIS 6.0 is "only" for Win2k Server Editions.
Stick to IIS 5.1 for XP Pro.
