IIS SMTP service problem

In my network, I installed IIS in one WinXP Pro computer so as to share its
SMTP service for other computers to use in the network. I just configured the
SMTP service to allow relay and nothing else. It worked fine and other
computers were able to send e-mails using that computer as SMTP server.

I want to use ICS in that WinXP Pro computer and so I installed a second NIC
card. The new card is connected to the default gateway. I reconfigured the
network to let other computers to connect to that WinXP Pro computer instead
of directly to the default gateway. The ICS works fine and others can connect
to the Internet. However, the SMTP service does not work well. Now all
out-going e-mails just stay in the "Queue" folder without sending out. When I
remove the new NIC card and switch back to the original configuration, it
works again. It seems that when I install a second NIC card, SMTP will not
work. What is the problem or what do I have to configure more?

Did you think of firewall? I suspect that your NIC having trouble with; the
firewall is on. Hm! So it seems the main computer you are sharing ICS, in
that firewall settings, make sure PORT 23 SMTP enable by going to advanced
options in the properties. You can see whether your firewall is on in the NIC
you having trouble by Right Clicking NIC, going to properties, then go to
advanced.

MAKE SURE you turn on the firewall that is going out to the Internet only.
Do not turn on firewall inside. Just the NIC or modem that goes out to the
internet.

Yes, most likely problem with your firewall setup.

CHAMILA, thanks for the response.

I did not enable the ICF. There is no firewall at the default gateway
either. I even tried to disable ICS and let the new installed NIC be idle
without connecting to anything. I then switched back to the original network
configuration by connecting all computers to the default gateway. It is still
the same. I tried the IIS SMTP server at a Win2003 Server with RRAS enabled
for NAT and routing. The same problem arises. I really do not know what's
wrong!?
