If i do a system restore?

I think i need to reinstall my system 32 files because some seem to be
missing and the sound icon thats usually in the bottom corner has been missing

If you have a Restore Point that is before these symptoms started appearing,
that may fix your problem. If not, you may be out of luck. Keep in mind
that you would not have any data created after that Restore Point date and
any applications that were installed after that date would need to be
reinstalled.

Have you checked for malware?

Why do you think some of your system files are missing?

Before a reinstall, run the following command from Start>Run and have your
XP CD to hand:

sfc /scannow

Please note the space between the c and /.
