IEEE1394 Problem

Ever since upgrading to SP2 on my Sony laptop, whenever I connect my high-end
digital camera to an Adaptec FireConnect IEEE 1394 PC Card, the software for
the camera does not recogize that the camera is connected.

When I go into Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation mark next to
the driver. I then have to uninstall the driver, restart and reinstall the
driver with the camera connected. Everything works fine until I 1) disconnect
and reconnect the camera for whatever reason or 2) shut down and restart the
computer. Either way, even with the card and camera connected, I must again
go through uninstalling and reinstalling the driver steps and restarting -
everytime!

I noticed there was an IEEE1394 patch locatied at:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...4c-aec8-434d-9849-e668a50e6e81&DisplayLang=en

It is supposed to correct some IEEE capture device issues. I downloaded and
installed it, but it didn't make a darn bit of difference. The funny thing is
that I use this same camera and software on a Dell tower and do not
experience this problem at all. Only on the Sony laptop.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

What camera is it? I know Sony placed updated SONY driver on their web-site,
dunot know abt others.

ever tried in that direction?

please disregard my previous message Ralph, I see you aleady tried that
patch, sorry

See if there are newer drivers for the 1394 card available from
Adaptec. (I'm assuming you're referring to a 1394 Bus card for the
laptop.)

I'm using a digital back for a Hasselblad made by a
company called PhaseOne in Sweden. I did look on the Sony
web site awhile ago and found no 1394 updates, but I will
check again.

Ralph,

Strangely enough, this patch solved my issue. I have had a recurring issue
with loading and removing a firewire compact flash card. When I put the card
in, and then eject it, I lose all my firewire drives. I start to throw
Delayed Write errors. This patch seemed to cure it.
