I have a XP home Box.
After installing a IEEE 1394 Firewire card, I loose my
broadband connection.

It appears the 1394 card changes the settings on the
Realtek nic.

I have to do a sys restore, after removing the 1394 card
from box, to regain access to cable internet.

When I install the 1394 card, the IP ad on nic goes to
169.*.*, which tells me windows does not see the cable ??

What do I need to do to have both the 1394 card and Nic
work together.

Right click on My Computer and select Properties.

From the Hardware tab, select Device Manager.

Find the line Network Adapters and click on the + to expand the tree.
Highlight the entry for 1394 Net Adapter and right click and select Disable.

Reboot the PC.

This will NOT affect your ability to use the 1394 adapter for other devices
(hard drive, CD/DVD, capturing abilities etc) but will just disable it's
networking capabilities.

Since it's now not in the 'networking' loop, you should have your broadband
abilities back on your standard NIC.

Cari,
It worked and didn't work.
I did as you instructed, no go.

I then did system restore with both cards in machine.
Went to device manager - found the yellow question mark on
the IEEE1394 Host controller line.

Reboot.
New device found, went inmediatley to device manager and
disabled the ieee 1394 card on the network line.

Got it all to work. Internet, sony cam worked across the
firewire card, life was good.

Looked in network properties and found another entry:
LAN 2 - Sony Cam xxxxxxxx

Turned cam off, lost entry for LAN2, and lost internet on
nic.

HELP - there is something writing to the nic, after
firewire card is installed.

I have moved positions on nic and ieee 1394 card. I tried
removing both cards and installing the ieee 1394 first,
then nic, nic still goes to private address 169.*.*.*
