I attempted to put a IEEE 1394 card into my Dell computer - 4600 - windows XP - the computer will not recognize the board - it is a Dazzle DV Clip purchased through Dell - My computer does not recognize the new hardware - and there is supposed to be a driver - IEEE 1394 bus host controller - listed in Device Manager - but there is none. My understanding after going to the Pinnacle site(manufac. of Dazzle) that the driver was supposed to have come installed on Windows XP. Also said there should be a " Micorsoft DV camera and VCR" driver under heading "Imaging Devices" but that one is missing as well. I called Dell whom I bought the board from but they referred me to Pinnacle. Pinnacle said I needed to reinstall the drivers - but I never had them so I cant reinstall?? I have no idea whats next

XP will recognize and install drivers for a wide range of firewire
cards. If the card you purchased from Dell, is Plug N Play (that is,
it identifies itself properly to the OS) then XP will install internal
drivers.

I purchased a IEEE 1394 (firewire) card from Best Buy and it was
immediately recognized by XP and drivers were installed. The digital
camcorder (a Sony) is recognized by XP as soon as the firewire cable
is plugged in.

I would say that either the card you purchased is defective, or you
may have installed it incorrectly. Make sure the card is plugged into
the PCI slot and is making contact. Try another slot. If all else
fails, try another brand card.
