IE7 will not go away & I asked nicely too!

Can someone tell me how to get rid of IE 7? I made the mistake of
downloading the new Beta version to see how it runs---Shitty.

I tried to delete it out of Add/Remove Programs, but it came back after
re-booting. It will not let me make any changes in anything it says, "Some
settings are managed by your System Administrator. I am the administrator.

In Internet Options, I cannot change anything. Once removed will it
automatically revert to where it was, or should I just stick with Firefox &
Opera.

Use Add/Remove Windows components, then delete all files in its folder,
then use Registry Mechanic or similar to edit the registry (it will
highlight references to IE7 that are no longer valid, and then you tell
it to delete them. Then reboot.

And, yes, stick with Firefox etc. Don't bother with IE7 until it's been
around in gold release for at least 12 months. By which time the Mozilla
family will have another slew of updates, upgrades, and miscellaneous
improvements, and IE will still be s few steps behind.

Using Add/Remove Windows Components will NOT remove Internet Explorer.
It will hide shortcuts to the program, that's all. There might be an
uninstall provided in Add/Remove Programs to restore IE to it's previous
version but not having tried IE7 I can't say what mechanism it provides
for rolling back to the previous version.

Deleting IE files willy-nilly and using a registry cleaner to finish the
hatchet job is a recipe for an absolute disaster!

1. First try uninstalling via Add/Remove Programs. (Tip: Make sure Show
Updates box is checked.)

If IE7 isn't found there, try the following which is based on the notes of
MVP Sandi Hardmeier:

2. Run the commandline

%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2$\spuninst\spuninst.exe (IE7 Beta2)

%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe (IE7 Beta2 Preview)

Replace %windir% (above) with the path to your Windows folder, most often
'C:\Windows'. Make sure Show Hidden File and Folders is enabled via Control
Panel > Folder Options.

3. Go to the key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Right click on Internet Explorer > New String Value > Name that value
InstalledByUser (the value of the new String should be your User Account
name) > Uninstall IE7 via Add/Remove Programs.

Some software (for example CCleaner) deletes uninstaller directories such as
$NtUninstallie7bet2$ (or $NtUninstallie7bet2p$, for IE& Beta2 Preview).
If the $NtUninstallie7bet2$ folder is empty, or has been deleted completely,
whether by third party software or manually to preserve disk space, you will
not be able to remove the Beta 2 Preview via Add/Remove Programs or the
commandline. If running System Restore does not resolve the situation for
you, then your only choice is to stay with the Preview, or format your PC
and install Windows anew. You will not be able to install any future builds
of IE7 while Beta 2 Preview is installed, nor will you be able to run a
Repair Install of XP
 
Wow, don't you love getting random guesses from people as to how to monkey
with your PC?

System restore works 100% in removing IE7 beta.

Why would someone go out and install the beta of MS Antispyware(Defender) or
the beta firefox? The OP was curious and wanted to see what features the new
IE would have. It was available. It was free. The OP felt technically savvy
enough to deal with any issues that an almost finished product might have.

Side Note:
IE 7 is running just fine on my laptop with no issues what so ever.
I installed it to test the display and functionality of web apps and other
minor items.

Thanks Manny that did it. Nothing else would work I went into Windows,
Program Files Registry. It would still come back the next day. Maybe I
didn't give it enough of a chance. I couldn't alter anything about
everything was greyed out so I couldn't set nothing, not even change
computer name. Did you have that? I noticed when I tried to adjust my
security & I couldn't it said an administrator would. I thought I was only
person here [Maybe secret Internet Aliens coming thru the air waves into
monitors] I could nit change my permissions either.

We all know what 'curiosity' did - it killed the cat :-o :-o
Did the OP say all that? His comment was ' to see how it runs'. How do you
know he was a 'savvy tech'
The advice given to me and others in newsgroups, is to have two comps - one
as a test for all the beta cxxp to play with, and the other for personal
use.
OR read and watch the various beta newsgroups and see how things develop.
I appreciate this does not help developers with the feedback, but.........

Side Note
Glad its working for you - I have read the cure before - probably from your
good-self - but a few have had problems with Sys Rest not working.
Take care - thanks for your input to the newsgroup - I save some of your
stuff to disk - along with others of course
