Hi Folks!
Hope someone out here can help me. All of a sudden IE6 stopped saving
cookies. I have searched thru Internet Tools to find a setting for that,
but, alas, I couldn't find one. I have done numerous virus scans, spyware
scans, etc., to no avail.
If anyone has a clue, I would truly appreciate an answer to this problem.
Many thanks.
Becky

Have you checked in....
C:\Documents and Settings\'Your-Login-Name'\Cookies ?
You'll need to have Explorer Show all Files.

If you've overridden Default Cookie handling, it's possible
you have set IE to Block both 1st and 3rd party cookies. This
is the only way I can think of that would block all cookies. Do
you have any 3rd party Security software installed that can work
with Cookies ?

Cookies normally are stored in the TIF folder and saved in the
profile location mentioned above.

Problems with cookies are out the window, for me!! First, I downloaded
a small program called, "Cookie Wall" from PC World, Magazine.

It throws a smiling cookie in your systray, or in WIN XP...?

Once you click on it, it brings up a dialog box. Click on CONGURE to
have it start when Windows starts, and the rest you can set
yourself...your preferences.

Then, whenever your on line, EVERY cookie that comes in to your PC it
stopped dead. YOU decide whether you want to keep it, keep it only
while your online, or delete it then and there.

At the end of your online session, click the smiling cookie, and decide
permanently...DELETE, or KEEP!

You'll find it to be the best answer to the cookie problem ever.

Yes I have checked in C:\D&S\my user name\cookies....there is NOTHING there
except the .dat file. They disappear.
I tried your suggestion about the 1st and 3rd party cookies, slid my slider
down to "low", and it still won't save cookies. :/
I have no 3rd party software that handles cookies.
Next? lol

OK I d/l'd the little program, configured it to prompt me and to start on
startup. It's not prompting me, and my cookies are still not being saved
:( There are only a few sites where I like to save my login's, so this is
not a real big deal; but I would like my machine to do what I tell it! LOL I
also, just for kicks and grins, lowered the Privacy settings to as low as
the slider would allow, which allows for ALL cookies. No go on that attempt
either. *sigh*

Are you reasonably certain that your machine is free of "Baddies" ?,
Do you use AdAware,SpyBot & MS AntiSpyware software. Also,
you should use an On-Line AntiVirus scan to double-check your
system for Viruses/Trojans.
Try Trend-Micro House Call, to scan for Viruses/Trojans:

I would set Cookie handling to "Prompt" for both 1st and 3rd party
cookies. Then visit some of your favorite sites and monitor the TIF
for cookie creation. ( Set View to List). Once you have a few cookies
in place, close IE and refresh the TIF view. If the newly placed cookies
"Disappear" then you have some background task/process that is purging
them out and that would indicate Malware. Even with the IE option
"Empty the Cache when IE is closed" should not remove Cookies.

To set IE Cookie Handling:
IE, Click Tools, Internet Options, Privacy,Advanced->
Check "Override Default Cookie Handling"
Check Prompt for both 1st and 3rd party cookies.
Apply, OK, close IE and re-open (Visit Websites)

Thanks! The Advanced settings seemed to do the trick. There is just one site
that won't keep my cookie, and I will email them to see if they have changed
their login programming.

I routinely scan for spyware (Spyware Doctor), viruses (F-Secure and
Housecall), and trojans (Swatit). I have a good firewall, and am very
careful about what I click on.

Again, thanks for all your help. It was just simply puzzling! Thanks to you,
too, Mike, for the nifty little program, Cookie Wall. I'm starting to like
this program.

Blessings,
Becky

Well I spoke too soon. All the configuring and configgling has not helped
save my cookies.
Next idea? :)
