....but it will open in another profile.

I'm running XP Home Edition SP2, and when I logon to the computer using my
profile, Internet Explorer 6 won't open. I try to run the program, and
nothing happens. No error message, no window, nothing. The cursor turns
active for a moment, but then stops. It doesn't even appear in the
"processes" of the Task Manager. When I use my wife's profile, however, IE 6
works fine. Same computer, same IE 6, same OS, but a different profile. What
is going on? How can I fix this? Thanks.

Hi,
Malware can affect only some user accounts.

First try BHODemon from http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm Your
problem may simply a troublesome Browser Helper Object.

Then download and run CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot (in that order.)
See: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on
that page.

If unsuccessful with those programs, you may have to post a HijackThis log
to one of the forums listed below. You will receive good help at any of

Hi Berndtro,
My advice to jasonact should help with your problem. Or see the reply in

Don,
Thanks for your advise, but that didn't seem to work. It doesn't look like
the problem is connected to any kind of malware or security problem. IE6
simply won't start. Again, when I have the Task Manager open while I attempt
to open IE6, it appears in the active processes briefly, but then disappears.
It's like someone is closing the program before it even opens. Do you have
any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Actually, it looks like it worked after all. I read through your post again,
and noticed that I had missed a step. Thank you so much!!!
