My PC was infect by a number of spy/ad-ware. I've
managed to remove them with Spybot, and now I can't surf
the Internet with IE6.

MSN Messenger 6 and Yahoo Messenger still works and I can
ping website from MSDOS. IE6 doesn't seem to connect.
All I get is the error screen - "The page cannot be
displayed". I've also tried using IP addresses for the
website, but nada.

I've tried un-install IE6 and re-install it, but it still
doesn't work. I've also got Norton IS 2003, I've tried
disabling it and still nada. I've installed Netscape and
that seems to be OK.

I'd like to get IE6 working. Any ideas??

PS - I have Win XP Pro.

I've had the exact same problem, but I use win2000. Is
there a link for the win2000faq?

To repair IE
3 methods.

Start>settings>control panel>add/remove>choose IE>remove,
this gives the option to repair>re-boot.
or:

click start>programs>accessories>system tools>system info>tools menu.

or:
Start > Run

then enter exactly (case/space-sensitive) [copy it in]

rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance

2 of the suggestions did not work, but I'm still waiting
for my reply of the message I sent using the system info
method. If that fails, is reinstalling Windows 2000 the
only other way to fix this problem?
