I have been through numerous spware scans, virus checkers, etc. & am
stuck. I am running W2000 sp4, IE6 v. 6.0.2800.1106, SP1
The IT guys here are stumped, as all settings, host files, etc appear to
be correct. Netscape 4.7 runs, but is slow and can't open many sites,
INCLUDING Windows update!
All my other internet-aware programs run fine, I am only having a
problem with IE6. I saw the post about the qhosts virus, but McAfee has
not come up with anything (we subscribe to the update service).
Another interesting tidbit: I do not get the splash screen that says
that "IE is not the default browser, do I want to make it so?" when I
start IE6. I immediately get the page not displayable error.
Also, if I continue to poke around, I can see at the bottom status bar
that IE is trying to load a file called
res://c:\WINNT\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm
Can someone help here? We have tried re-installing IE6, with no success,
and it does not appear in the Add/Remove programs menu to try
uninstalling.
Thanks,
Dave Telling
