IE6 Stops working after a few hours

Please help.
My internet explorer 6 stops working after a few hours. I
have to restart my computer to "reconnect". If I refresh
it pulls up the can not find the site screen. Closing the
window and reopening a explorer does not work.

I have cleaned out temp folders and cookies, reinstalled
IE6 (by changing a value in the regedit key to allow
reinstalling), I have the updates and patches. what is
the next step?

Also I noticed the little icon the address bar in front of
the http... is no longer an Internet Explorer inco, its
looks like a non-associated file icon.

I am out of ideas, but an very tiered of restarting my
computer all the time.
