First of all my access to the internet options through
the Tools menu up top has been taken away. Error message
states that access has been restricted, contact your
admin, even though i am the admin and never locked myself
out. Second, When i click links like this one,
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, i get that
damn send error report box but if i cut
the /xp_tweaks.htm off the end it will go to the home
page. Also alot of links from various other pages will
give the same result, IE has encountered a problem and
must shutdown. I tried reinstalling IE6 original version
but i get an error stating that there is a more updated
version install so i can't go any farther. I NEED HELP
PLEASE!!! how can i get my IE running right without
reinstalling XP pro all together?

I had the same problem. I believe it's a virus but it doesn't show up. Eventually my firewall and AV was disabled and I couldn't get to email. All my email messages were turned into .txt and .jpg files. I have re-installed several times and eventually the same thing happens. I had XP home but finally installed XP pro. I really tweaked my firewall and security settings so hopefully I've stopped the problem. Symantec couldn't help me.

It seems that something is messing-up with your browser(obviously).

First off all le me suggest that you could use an other browser (i.e. opera)
to view web pages.

In my opinion IE is one of the best browsers out there
however the newsgroups host's struggle for flexibility (especially with Active
controls) makes this browser a serious security threat ( even the most
advanced user, as i would like to consider myself, can get easily in securit
trouble leading to situations as the one you describe). The only working solutio
to retain the usability of IE while retaining security is to use the (quite obscure
"security zones"

Anyway, to the point: probably your problem lies probably on the IE (policy-related) registry settings i.e.
*HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer*HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Setting
*HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
(you could use www.plasma-online.de/english/help/ solutions/ie_regsetting.html as a documentation starting point

Hope this helps
