after a recent format of my computer after picking up a nasty virus, when i connect to the internet, after about 20 minutes if i try and access a web page, i'm getting the 'page cannot be displayed, please press refresh or check your network settings' page. this is ecery web page i'm trying, even stuff like google. but i know i am still connected to the internet because i can sign into hotmal and chat on it, it's just pages i can't get access to, also, my brothers computer is networked to this one (mine being the host computer) and he has no problems whatsoever with his connection and can browse all night. i've done a complete virus scan, ran adaware, hijackthis, spybot search and destroy, cw shredder.. you name it i've ran it! i thought maybe i'd try and re install IE6, first came up with the 'newer version already installed' error message, but after broswing through this site i've got round that, but now it's telling me it's not passed the windows xp logo testing and cancels the install. is there a way around this, or am i doing something wrong? or does anyone have any other suggestions? thanks if you do, it's been like this for weeks now and i can't think of anything else to do.

thanks again

I'm not sure which thing you need to sovle first, but it is important to post the exact errorr message and error code number if there is one. There was probably no need to re-install IE in the first place, it might have just been a few settings that needed to be changed.

thanks for the suggestion, but i had already tried them, to no avail. the only reason i uninstalled IE was because it was suggested i do so on here, and to be honest i had completely run out of things to try, and that seemed like the only option left. it's still happening, i still can't get past the logo testing bit. there are no error codes at all, just stops connecting to web pages. i have noticed over the past couple of days, that when i run task manager and look at the PF usage, (after i've been on the pc a while, and after ive been booted off the net) it shoots up to around 500mb, which is something that's never happenned, it has always stayed below 200. and explorer, even when i have no programs running, is running at around 80,000 and i have no idea why?

thanks again

thanks for the reply, sorry it took so long getting back to you with the results but ive been on holiday.

right, i tried what you suggested, and it's still not working. the only problem i had was with one of the certificates, the 'no liability accepted (c)97 Verisign, Inc' one. it has expired. i understand that i have to extract it, and if im reading it right, run it on another computer, extract it from there, then put it back on mine?

i have noticed this morning however, that when i get booted off the net, i look at task manager and explorer (not internet) is running anything up to 100,000! the longer the comp is on, it just keeps getting higher and higher. i have absolutely no applications running. i can then, shut explorer down via task manager, and open a web page under new task, and can happily broswe about all night. i ran all the spybot and virus programs again but nothing came up. i'm even more at a loss to what the problem is now!

thanks again
