Can't figure out what's causing this... on a P3/650 576M-RAM Win98SE laptop
with MS Office 2000, I'll be running the computer for a while, could be 2
minuses or an hour, opening & closing new IE6 windows with no problem, and
then I'll go to start a new IE6 window. My task monitor program will show
that IE6 has started, but it will be a full two minutes before the new
browser window shows up.

This happens when I start IE6 from the desktop icon, the quicklaunch bar, or
from the start menu. However, if I start a new browser window from an
existing IE6 window by selecting File > New > Window, I get a new window
right away.

Yes, I've done a detect/repair on IE6, and even reinstalled it with all
upgrades, to no avail.

Can anyone tell me what the cause of this is?

THANKS!!!

Bill G.'

I have no viruses, no spyware (I've got SpyBot), and the only 3rd party
extensions are Google toolbar and Spybot.

hi. i had encountered the same problem as you. I found a solution to the
problem through this newsgrop. you can do the following:
IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

If all is ok when you disable the 3rd party browser setting, then:

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

If you get a 404 error or Access denied, try:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:

Sign in, then copy and paste both files in your message.

Try removing the Google toolbar. It apparently causes others
some unexpected side effects.
