Hi

Am running xp and ie6. Lately, I will be surfing and get pop-ups off normal
(ie DIY) sites, but I then find I can't close them down, nor any of the
browser windows for that matter. Often, I'll open quite a few windows
myself just so I can carry on surfing, but the pc just beeps when I try and
close them. The only way to get around it is to end the explorer task in
task manager, and start again.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing it? I've up to date with the
windows updates.

Thanks
Truff

Hi there Truffle,

You may download and install the Ad-aware spyware removal utility from the following Web site:
http://www.webattack.com/get/adaware.shtml

Initiate Adaware and Adaware will deep scan the registry for spywares, After the scan is finished, click [Next] button. Select all the items (checkboxes). right click on any object in the "Scan result" list and choose [Select all objects], Click Next and click OK to confirm spyware removal.

You may also fix use the IEFix utilty from Ramesh[MVP] to correct most of the problem related to IE in Windows XP, please download from here:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/utils/IEFix.exe

** Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM and navigate to the <i386> folder when prompted.

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
