IE6.0 hangs

When opening a new page, the status bar rapidly moves to
all but a sliver full. The page then hangs for 20-30
seconds. If it is a screen where data entry is permitted
(logging into a website) it will not give a cursor or
allow keystrokes to be recorded for another 20-30
seconds. I have run Antivirus software, Antispyware
software and Nortons utilities all show it is OK. The OS
is windows XP. There is plenty of free space on the hard
drive. I have deleted cookies and temp internet files and
also restored all the default settings (as well as
changing some for better performance). I have run the
sfc /scannow as posted on MS knowledge base. I have run
scan disk and defrag. Are there any other options besides
dumping and reloading?
thanks

how many progs do you have running,and/or starting. try
to stop a few start up programs to see if that helps.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

and:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite).

If you find this one get the removal tool.

I have used task manager to kill all non essential apps
and it makes no difference. I have run adaware, spybot
S&D and McAffees AV. Disbling 3rd party browsers
extensions has no effect. The only thing different about
this machine and several others of the same type (having
no problems) is that this one has a lot of MP3's saved
but there is still over 10G free (most of the others have
at least 20G free)

Did you try hitting Stop? (E.g. press Esc) What do you see
in the Status bar besides the progress indicator?
Perhaps it is just hanging waiting for a hitcounter or some other
image file requested by the page.

I agree with Henri that consistent hangs of 20-30 seconds could imply
a case of spyware. Usually though I think that such hangs occur before
the page is loaded not after.
