IE won't maximise

This just started today and I can't think of anything
I've done differently to cause it. Whenever I try to
maximise IE, it goes to full width, but leaves a bar at
the top the same size as the taskbar at the bottom. If
minimised, I can stretch it full screen, but if I
maximise it goes straight back to how it was before.
I'm not a guru, but I've checked for viruses with
Nortons, checked for bugs using Spybot and Norton
Utilites - but nothing seems to fix the problem.
Please help. Thankyou.
 
Try stretching it to full size. (Do not use Maximize)
Ensure that window is the last one closed and IE should remember the
size next time.

You didn't mention your operating system. If XP, you might consider
using Restore. If an earlier system, perhaps you have a recent
registry backup.

This suggests that you have Auto-hide set in the Taskbar?
Try toggling Auto-hide off and on while that Maximized
window is the current task. If the window doesn't change its size
when you do that unlock the Taskbar and change its size
by dragging it up. Usually that will be sufficient to cause
the window's size and position values to be recalculated.
However, if necessary you could also try temporarily changing
your screen resolution (up or down). Same idea, cause a
recalculation of the window's parameters.
