IE Won't Launch Nor Will MyComputer, MyNetwork Places, etc.

I've been using the same PC for years and always download Microsoft Updates. However, two days ago when I double-click on IE, MyComputer, MyNetwork, Windows Explorer, etc. -- nothing launches. The screen flashes and stays the same. In order to get on-line, I launched AOL and then downloaded the NetScape browser, but I need to be able to access applications. How can I locate and correct this problem?
 
I am having the same problem. No viruses are found on system and I also have run spybot on this computer to remove adware/malware. Does anybody know what this problem is?
 
I hope someone has the answer to this as I am having the same problem.
