IE won't do FIND on page

Find (on page, not search the web). Neither Ctrl-F
nor Edit\Find\Test in this message bring up the little
find dialog box.

Are there registry entries for IE's "Find"?
Is there a master list (I'm headed to Google next) for
IE registry entries?

Suspicion was that Webwasher or Outpost Firewall might
have done this but that made no sense and it continues even
after they were disabled and then uninstalled.

Next idea was a registry cleaner/protector -- I have been
running (before this happened) AdAware, SpyBot Search &
Destroy, and SpyWare Blaster with no trouble and I am
careful not to arbitrarily delete registry entries or such.

Next idea is to run RegMon and look for failures when trying
to bring up the Find.

nor Edit\Find\Test in this message bring up the little

That should say, "menu Edit\Find (on this page) Ctrl-F
(I copied the text explanation from OE instead of IE
but the problem itself remains -- btw, OE and other
programs work fine.)

And if I bring up Tools and hit Ctrl-F it does the proper
(different) function in there so no program has Ctrl-F
captured to prevent IE from seeing the keypress. Of
course, it doesn't work from the menu either so key
capture wasn't likely anyway.

RegMon during Ctrl-F had gave nothing useful.

Complete (repair) re-install of IE 6.1, no help.

Do you have a system backup saved from before this happened?

I suspect that Web Washer and/or and third-party Registry "cleaner" have caused
your problems - if you have a System Restore utility - roll back to a point
where these features worked.

Ad-aware, SpyBot and Spyware Blaster are not known to cause these sort of
issues.

You and Maureen are likely right, I will have to restore to
get this back. (Re-installing didn't work.)

WebWasher is the prime suspect since it was installed in
immediate proximity to the problems appearing. Didn't
go away when I uninstalled it though. Hate to blame them
if that isn't the culprit but it's odds are about a 40% plurality.

One would think a reg key to disable FIND on page 1) wouldn't
exist 2) would be documented if it did

I understand disabling Search (the web) but not find.

Good luck with it, I'm all out of ideas :)

I may just finally give up and run Netscape which I have
resisted since the beginning.

Loaded it, and like it. IE and OE are such resource pigs
anyway (but I love them.)

Well, it's a love/hate relationship.

Worth a shot:
RUN cmd
sfc \scannow
You are right, it's worth a shot -- and I wouldn't have thought of
that. Of course, I have re-booted a bunch of times, installed,
re-installed,
but what the heck....

I am beginning to believe that links which don't function are ones without
file names (just Url\Folder but no Url\file.ext)

No joy.
