IE will randomly drop my connection to the point where I
have to reeboot. I've checked all connections, drivers
and updates. I've scanned for BHO's and virii. I've
yelled at the computer and looked at it cross-eyed.
nothing will work. what is going on? is there something
I'm missing?

This is a REAL big hunch but try using ipconfig (Start ->
Run -> "cmd" then type ipconfig /renew

Wondering what type of connection you have. I have had
them all but this is a problem I used to have freequently
with my pppoe due to connection software. Other times with
router firmware.

If you don't have any of the following just let me know
what you do have and maby I can be of more help.

If you use a window pppoe connection program such as
winpoet be sure to check inactive time settings etc. and
disable anything that may ever disconnect you. i.e. You
may have to set inactive time to zero to disable it. True
with most routers.

Also run cmd for dos promt and check when the lease time
expires on your ip address and try to note if it is
disconnecting then. Some isp's will temporarly disconnect
you then even if you get the same number back. Usually not
likely though. Only had one company do that to me.

Another time it was happening was downloading through
wireless. That usually depends on encrypting and keys and
channels and signal interferance and strength etc. Just to
try and cover all bases...
If you do have a router update to the latest firmware.
If you have a router/modem combo from your isp then ditch
it for a regular modem and get your own router...They will
tell you a million times it won't work but I made them eat
it every time. Unless you have sdsl. That takes a special
router and is usually common in isolated areas.
