IE randomly closes without an error message

This is getting very annoying. Internet Explorer randomly
closes while I'm surfing the internet. I cannot isolate
the problem to any particular action. It only happens to
Internet Explorer, no other program.

Sometimes it happens when I use my mousewheel to scroll,
sometimes it happens when I go to another web page,
occasionally while the PC is idle and I'm just reading
something on the screen, and other times it just closes
while the browser is open and I am away from the computer.

I ran a virus scan and came up clean.
I am up to date with Windows Updates.
I am running Ad-aware, so it tells me when something tries
to modify the registry. Since I received no such message,
I'm pretty sure my registry is fine.

Does anyone have any ideas??

Mike,

The same thing is happening to me an increasing
number of times per session. I use SpybotSearch&Destroy,
SpywareGuard 2.2, RapidBlasterKiller, and HijackThis! software
and still it happens. I was told by a forum moderator that
it is a blaster virus, however, I think it is inherent in IE6xp.
I cannot pinpoint the cause, but I sure would be interested
in hearing people's explanations.

I'm glad to see that someone has my problem and knows what
I'm talking about. I'm also pretty sure it can't be a
virus because even a format and fresh install of XP did
not correct the problem.

blaster virus not with IE 6 but any operating system after windows 98 like
your windows 2000
