IE pop-ups

Recently, I downloaded and installed Download Accelerator Plus. What a
mistake that was! Full of spyware and adware! I had some trouble with
uninstalling some bits and ran AdAware to check my computer. It all seems to
be gone now, but I still get these annoying IE pop-ups. They started when I
first installed DAP and now they won't stop. They are all the same. Just
advertising. I normally use Googles toolbar to stop pop-ups, but I think
they are triggered by something else other than a web page. The process list
in Task Manager doesn't show anything abnormal. (Not now anyway)

In XP, go to services and look for windows messenger service (this one is
different from MSN messenger chat) and turn it off.

It's not that. I always make sure that service is off. What I am
experiencing are IE windows. Possibly triggered by another program rather
than the web site.

Besides running ad-aware and spybot, I have found that pop-up blocker
that comes with windows xp sp2 works great.

Greetings --

To deal with issues caused by any sort of "adware" and/or
"spyware,"such as Gator, Comet Cursors, Smiley Central, Xupiter,
Bonzai Buddy, or KaZaA, and their remnants, that you've deliberately
(but without understanding the consequences) installed, two products
that are quite effective (at finding and removing this type of
scumware) are Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and SpyBot Search &
Destroy from www.safer-networking.org/. Both have free versions.
It's even possible to use SpyBot Search & Destroy to "immunize" your
system against most future intrusions. I use both and generally
perform manual scans every week or so to clean out cookies, etc.

Additionally, manual removal instructions for the most common
varieties of scumware are available here:
