IE pages keep disappearing

Can anyone help? Recently whenever I open a page on Internet Explorer and
then follow a link in the page, the entire page disappears. For example if I
go to Google. and search. the entire page shuts down as soon as I press
enter. I have Windows 2000. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
